MONROVIA (Reuters) – A United Nations helicopter carrying former Liberian President Charles Taylor, accompanied by U.N. peacekeepers, left the capital, Monrovia, on Wednesday, a Reuters witness said.
The former warlord, who was handcuffed, was due to be transferred to a special U.N.-backed tribunal in neighbouring Sierra Leone, where he faces 17 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
