How hard IS it to use Google Maps?

by Paul on August 18, 2010

I mean, I realize I am a web-saavy software professional, so maybe it’s way harder than it seems, but really, it seems like anyone who really wanted to get a sense of where the proposed Muslim cultural center near Ground Zero will be could just do this:

1. Go to http://maps.google.com
2. Type ’51 Park Place, NY, NY’ in the box. Hit Enter.
3. Look for the red letter A on the map. Click it.
4. In the little balloon, click the words Street View, under the tiny picture.
5. Use the arrows in the white circle in the upper left to move the view around, so you can see what things look like where the project would be built. That defunct Burlington Coat Factory building you are in front of is the site.

Turn the view around to look across the street. See that big building? Now tilt up. See how tall it is? Guess what, that’s not the tall side of that block.

‘Nuff said?

Sadly, not. Sinclair’s Rule is in effect.
